Salmon Creek Farms
Proud stewards of 400 acres for more than 25-years
For many years, marijuana farming was an adventure and we did our best to fly below the radar. We have always been outdoor, full-season farmers, using only organic products on our land. With the 1996 California 215 initiative, we were allowed to grow in the full sun (versus under the trees) and developed strains for the medical cannabis market with flavors unique to our hot summers days and cold fall nights. One of the most gratifying parts of cannabis farming has been the enthusiastic response from our buyers. They love our weed!

Our products run the gamut from high-end, grade-A, hand-trimmed flowers, to our “pre-roll” B buds, to the shake, leaf, and trim used for oil production. With State and County legalization of recreational use, we are working hard to keep pace with the fast changing market and compliance demands.
We traditionally started seeds in the springtime, but market demands for an indoor and uniform appearance is pushing us to rely more and more on purchasing clones. Seed plants, like children, are born with unpredictable variations and buyers are demanding every bud to look identical, which can only be achieved from clones.
Because we also raise sheep, goats, chickens, and rabbits on our farm, we have a ready source of manure (nitrogen) that we brew into a “tea” by mixing water and aerate (pump) for 24 hours in a large closed system vat. This is then watered around our plants in the summer. It gives our plants a ready-source of organic nutrients that they love. We mulch our gardens with straw and manure from our animal barns over the off-season winter months. Originally, I raked leaf mold out from under the Madrone trees in our back woods to create our garden soil, and then added horse manure from local stables, which I collected with a shovel and a wheelbarrow.
Our water was originally sourced from mountain springs originating on our property. Now our water sources are deep wells, drilled specifically for cannabis cultivation to comply with State Water Quality Board and State Department of Fish and Game requirements and restrictions.
We are proud to have been 25-year stewards of our 400 acres of the Salmon Creek watershed property, and have labored to heal and repair our land. Parts of our property have previously been logged and were clear-cut three times since the first white men arrived to a virgin landscape. The logging and re-logging profoundly damaged the soil and the creeks with the rubber-stamp approval of the complicit government agencies. We have repaired the roads and replaced undersized and damaged culverts, replanted native trees, and most importantly, removed our land from the repeated cycles of cut-and-run logging practices that was the previous prevailing economy and mindset of Humboldt County.
We are proud to be 25+ year stewards of our land
We have developed our unique Sour Jack strain, a Sour Diesel and Jack Herer hybrid—a sweet smelling flavor that was tested at 23% THC content, with zero detection of herbicides or pesticides.
